malba.design

The malba.design area was first organized in 2003 as a space dedicated to housing different expressions of design from Argentina and Latin America. It consists of four sectors:

> Tiendamalba (Malba store)
> Special projects
> malba.moda (malba.fashion)
> Urbconexion design contest
> Link to objects and products

 Tiendamalba (Malba store)

To promote Latin American design, Tiendamalba selects, displays and propagates designer objects. During 2003, Tiendamalba financed the development of prototypes produced by four Argentinean designers: Alejandro Sarmiento, Pedro Reissig, Diana Cabeza and Marcelo Mazza.  Some of these products were presented at the store’s March 2004 opening, along with pieces by industrial designers, visual artists, textile designers and architects.

Among these, the following deserve special mention: Roman Vitali, Leo Batisttelli, Martín Churba, Diana Cabeza, Marcelo Mazza, Alejandro Sarmiento, Pedro Reissig, Nicola Costantino, Ileana Sotela, Marina Molinelli Wells, Daniela Schwartz, Alma Aranda, Pablo Siquier, Beto de Volder, Vanina Mizrahi, Sergio De Loof, Manuel Brandazza, Diego Deaduriz, Vero Ivaldi, Perfectos Dragones and Ricardo Blanco.  In a similar vein, Tiendamalba organizes product selections around given object themes, where a guest designer is responsible for selecting pieces and proposing concepts related to Latin American design.

 Special projects

Among a variety of projects, Tiendamalba is preparing the malba.niños (malba.kids) and malba.accesorios (malba.accessories) shows, for December 2004 and March 2005, respectively. There are additional plans for a box design, commissioned by the prestigious British periodical i.D. Magazine to mark its 25th Anniversary.

 malba.moda (malba.fashion)

malba.design has organized various encounters between creators and designers from the world of apparel.

Habito-Malba, held in 2003 and curated by architect Andrea Saltzman, showcased the visions of four exceptional local designers –Sergio De Loof, Martín Churba, Brandazza de Aduriz and Vero Ivaldi- on the relationship between body, clothing and context. Four events were held, reflecting differing proposals, with interventions in the Museum’s central hall, which was inhabited in keeping with the implications of each action. The event left us an outstanding line of designer objects.

 Urbconexion design contest

In September 2004, our first joint design contest was organized in partnership with Nobleza Piccardo “Lucky Strike”. The aim was to promote critical thought and applied creativity, with technical ability, by way of original design proposals that alter the connotation and mood of moments considered “lost”, and spaces that supposedly lack a character of their own, granting them originality and appeal.  Pre-selected proposals were awarded financing, at the jury’s discretion, for the building of a prototype or scale model.
